San Diego Zoo Part Three

After leaving the hippopotamus, we saw a very unusual animal called an Okapi.

It's legs look like a zebra but it is actually kin to the giraffe.

Next, we saw a beautiful Malayan Tiger,

an albino Burmese Python,

and a Fishing Cat.

Next, we walked the Monkey Trail where we saw a Tufted Capuchin,

this bunny rabbit hopping around freely outside the monkey cages,

a Mandrill,

two Eastern Angolan Colobus monkeys,

a Mangabey,

a chimpanzee eating some ants,

and the biggest monkeys of them all, gorillas!

Look how big a gorilla's hand is compared to mine!

We walked to the Panda exhibit which must be the most popular exhibit because there was about a 20 minute wait to see the pandas.

But they were worth the wait!

This panda was enjoying his meal of bamboo.  I guess they eat their toothpicks.  :)

This panda decided to climb a tree and just rest awhile.

After leaving the panda exhibit, we saw some other bears including the smallest bear in the world, the Sun Bear.

The Sun Bear may be the smallest bear in the world but he eats like the biggest bear.  Look at the size of that meat bone!

Then, we saw the fiercest bears of all, the grizzly bear!

Look at the size of his claws!  I sure am glad we didn't run into any of these on the hiking trails at Glacier National Park!

The last bear we saw was the Andean Bear.  I think he has already gone into hibernation!

We walked back to Koalafornia so we could watch the koalas for a few more minutes before the zoo closed.  There were a few more that were awake now.

We could see the wallabies that live in the same exhibit area.  The koalas stay in the trees and the wallabies stay on the ground and apparently they get along just fine that way!

The koalas climb across the trees so slowly and carefully.

I could have stayed in Koalafornia and watched those koalas for hours.

Koalas are still my favorite animal!

After a long fun day at the zoo, it was time to go.  The rhinoceros was up and awake to tell us good-bye.

And I had my first "churro" which is a long cinnamon stick type pastry.  It was delicious!

And we said good-bye to the giraffes.

What a fun day at the San Diego Zoo!

We decided to go to In-N-Out Burger for dinner which is a very popular restaurant that has been around California since the 1940's.  The restaurant was very crowded but we found a place to sit next to a mother and daughter.  We began talking with them and found out the mother who was sitting next to Chuck was 102 years old!  Wow!  We have never met anyone who was 102 before!  She was a beautiful lady and her name was Eunice.  She was deaf but she spoke sign language so her daughter (who I was sitting next to) communicated to her for us.  What a perfect ending to a wonderful day!
