A lot of our traveling revolves around national parks. We are still hoping to go to Bryce Canyon
before it gets too cold this year but with the government shutdown, there was
no point in heading that direction yet.
So where to go next? Hmmmmmm.
Then I remembered that San Diego has one of the best zoos
in the world and that my favorite animal since I was a little girl is found
there: Koalas!
San Diego, here we come!
I checked out campgrounds in and around San Diego and we decided to stay
at Chula Vista RV Resort. It is a lot
pricier than what we normally like to pay but we have found that anytime you
are staying in or very near a big city, the campground rates are always much
higher.
We did not leave El Segundo until around 10:30 because we
wanted to minimize our changes of being caught in heavy Los Angeles
traffic. We drove I-405 south through
Los Angeles. Even though the traffic was
heavy in places, it was moving right along.
I-405 ends up merging back into I-5 south. We could see the coast and the ocean at
various points between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The traffic picked up a little more as we entered San Diego
but it still was not bad.
Chula Vista RV Resort is located a few miles south of San
Diego and only about a mile from the interstate. The park is very nice and the sites are all
concrete pads that are surrounded by shrubs for privacy.
We were assigned site #4 which should have been an easy site
to back into. We had to work around the
pine tree on the back passenger side and the shrubs on the driver's to make
sure the slide-outs could fully extend plus leave enough room to park the car
out front so it took a little longer.
Once we got it all situated, it was a very nice site that we
will enjoy for a few days.
