We were making very good time and then just south of Montgomery, traffic was detoured off I-65 because they had closed the interstate due to a truck fire. The detour delayed us about 45 minutes but at least we weren't stuck on the interstate. Right before we got to Mobile, the rain started and it rained very, very hard until we were well into Louisiana. We probably drove for about 4 or 5 hours in heavy rain which was probably the longest we had ever driven in that much rain. Most of the time, when we are driving long distances in one day, we will drive out of the storm; but this weather system just continued to hover over the lower parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
The rain finally began to stop about the time we were crossing the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge.
We crossed over the 18 mile long Atchafalaya Basin Bridge -- the same bridge we had crossed last December when we traveled from Pensacola to San Antonio.
Chuck said it sure looks like it would be great fishing here!
After stopping twice for fuel and twice at rest stops, we had traveled 611 miles and arrived at Frog City RV Park around 6 pm. Bonnie had told the lady in the office that we might be getting there tonight and so we were able to get a site right next to Ken and Bonnie. We were so glad to see them! Bonnie and I both even had on our lime green! :)
After we had given each other hugs and talked for a few minutes, Chuck and I began setting up the motorhome. We had a beautiful sunset!
After getting set up and eating a quick dinner, we went over to Ken and Bonnie's for a little while and got caught up on what's been going on with each other and our families.
We're so glad to be sharing this adventure with Ken and Bonnie. Our first exploration will be the Tabasco Company at Avery Island, Louisiana, tomorrow!
