We were hooked up and left Frog City RV Park around 7:15 am. Based on the weather forecast, we were fully expecting to be driving through rain and/or storms for a good part of the day. We were very lucky and drove through very little rain.
We stopped at the Welcome Center just as we crossed into Texas to pick up some information about where we were traveling. Behind the Welcome Center there was this long walkway out over a Texas swamp.
On display was a bronze replica of a alligator snapping turtle. He is one mean-looking turtle.
The turtle swims just below the surface of the water and his back makes him look like an alligator swimming in the water. He has this worm looking thing on his tongue with which he attracts fish by swimming with his mouth open. Some poor little fish thinks he's just found a nice little worm to eat but instead he finds himself inside the mouth of the turtle and becomes lunch for the turtle!
We got back on the road and had very little difficulty driving straight through Houston and then stopped at a rest stop about an hour on the other side of Houston to stretch our legs and make some lunch. We stopped one more time to fill up with fuel just east of San Antonio and then by 3 pm, we were pulling into Travelers World RV Park in San Antonio.
While our sites are not right next to each other, they are very close. We are four sites up from where we were in the winter...
...and Ken and Bonnie are behind us and over a couple of sites. We can see their motorhome from our bathroom window. :)
We got our campers all set up, rested for a little while and then walked around the campground. We also walked down to take a look at the Riverwalk. It has a lot more water in it then when we were here previously.
After dinner we got back together at Ken and Bonnie's to play Pinochle and SkipBo. The guys were the winners tonight. Congratulations, guys! You deserve it after all your good driving today!
