The Wild Side of Carrabelle

We got to the beach right after high tide had peaked for the morning.  It was a beautiful sunny day.

Chuck caught his first fish of the day with his first cast:  a small catfish.

After the first catch, the fishing got a little slow.  We noticed some dolphins way out in the water.  They gradually started coming in closer to shore and then they put on a show for us.  (Sorry, the video is in black and white.  I got so excited about seeing the dolphins, I forgot to check my camera settings.)

There were a lot of birds along the shore today.

Of course, Jonathan Seagull was nearby too.

A lot of the birds seemed to be chasing one another or almost fighting one another.  Some of them would even hit Chuck's fishing line as they would fly by.  We found out from a local guy that walks the beach everyday that this is mating season for some of the birds.  Those birds are only looking for one thing and it's not Chuck's fishing line.

Gimpy was back but was busy fighting off another sandpiper for his little section of the beach.  The video below shows how well he gets around.

But after all that work, he bedded down in the sand to rest awhile.

After all the dolphin and bird activity, the fishing started picking up.  Chuck caught 3 more catfish and then he caught this little shark.

He caught this fish with his next cast; but we don't have a clue what it is.

Really weird.  It has a flat spot on the top of its head that almost looks like a shoe print.

As soon as we figure out what kind of fish this is, I will update this blog post.

I decided to go for a short walk before we went back to the motorhome.  I saw another one of those pretty spotted starfish curled up in the surf.

This heron was standing in the surf looking for a bite to eat.

And I took a video of this cute little flock of baby sandpipers running out in front of me.

Around 12:30, we packed everything up and headed back to the motorhome.  I worked on the blog this afternoon and then we ate out for dinner at El Jalisco's in Eastpoint.  The restaurant appears to be in an old Waffle House building and is kind of a dive, but the food was pretty good.

Another wild day in Carrabelle!  :)

  1. Beautiful pictures...looks like great fun. Now, if Chuck could get some good fish for dinner, you would have it made.
