Last Day at Carrabelle

Since this was our last day at Carrabelle and the weather was nearly perfect with clear skies and temps around 70 degrees, we decided to go for a walk this morning on the beach.

We walked around the eastern point first...

...and saw a few of those same crabs that were crawling all over the place when we walked out here a few days ago.

The tide was coming in and we walked as far as we could go...

...and then turned around and headed back.

I think one of the things I like most about the beach (besides being with my honey)...

is that it is constantly changing.  Yesterday, when I walked to this point, I was able to walk out another 100 yards or so on sand.

Today, it was covered with birds and water.

We walked a little over 4 miles...

by walking down past the stumps and noticed this nice sand castle someone had made...

...and then went back to the motorhome for lunch.  I told Chuck I would really like to give the oysters another try.  I asked at the office if they had recommendations of a place in Carrabelle that had good steamed or baked oysters.  They recommended Fathom's Rawbar and Steambar just a couple of miles down the road in Carrabelle.  So we decided to give the oysters another try for lunch.

Fathom's is located on the Carrabelle River harbor where we could watch the occasional sailboat go by.

We ordered a dozen steamed oysters...

and a dozen Oysters Rockefeller,

but unfortunately, the oysters are still very small.  I told Chuck maybe they need to start serving smaller crackers to make you think you are getting a bigger oyster.  :)  The oysters were tasty.  They just weren't very big.

We also split a seafood quesadilla and one of their potato bowls both of which were very good.  Fathom's would probably be classified as a dive, but the food was good and it was a nice day to eat out for lunch!

When we got back to the motorhome, we loaded up the beach and fishing gear and headed back to the beach.  Chuck's first catch of the day was a whiting.

He caught three more whitings for a total of four.  Whitings are supposed to be a tasty fish to eat but these were pretty small.  The fishing was kind of slow but his last catch of the day was the most exciting...a bonnethead shark!

This was the first bonnethead shark Chuck has ever caught.

We headed back to the camper a little before 5 pm because we wanted to go ahead and begin getting ready to leave tomorrow.  While Chuck loaded the bikes, cleaned the saltwater off his fishing gear and the chairs, and took off the wheelcovers and windshield cover, I cleaned the motorhome.

By 6 pm, we were both done and were able to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather here at Carrabelle for a few more moments.  We have so enjoyed the peacefulness of Carrabelle and look forward to returning here again some time.
