The Peaceful Side of Carrabelle

We got out to the beach right before high tide this morning thinking the fishing might be a little better.  Also, since there was a good chance of rain this afternoon, we thought we should get out to the beach and enjoy it while we could.

It was a beautiful morning.

Chuck threw out his first cast,

and then we watched the clouds go by while we waited for a fish to come take his bait.  Why don't you enjoy it for a few seconds with us as you watch this video:

Not only was the fishing slow this morning, there weren't as many birds at the beach.  Maybe they were taking cover from the expected storms.

Some clouds came over for a few minutes...

but then the sun rays started spilling out from the clouds...

...and it was bright and sunny the rest of the morning.

While we were waiting, the same gentleman who told us about this being mating season for the birds came by.  Since he was a local guy, we showed him a picture of the black fish Chuck caught yesterday to see if he knew what kind it was.

He said it was a pilot fish and was the type of fish that latches on to sharks, whales and dolphins which explained the flat plate on the top of its head.

I researched the fish on the internet and determined that it is actually called a Remora.  They latch on to sharks, whales, sea turtles, and even manta rays, but they don't feed off of them.  Instead, they eat the leftovers of what the host fish they are latched on to is eating.

It was a very slow morning for fishing,

but Chuck still managed to catch one pretty good size catfish.

We went for a short walk on the beach and then headed in for lunch. Since it rained most of the afternoon, we didn't go back to the beach today.  Later this afternoon, we went to the grocery store to get stocked up on groceries again and bought a pound of shrimp at Millender & Sons Seafood in Carrabelle.  We had boiled shrimp, cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans for dinner and it was delicious!
