We left the KOA in Burlington a little after 10:00 am and
headed south on I-5 to Randle, Washington.
We were surprised at the amount of traffic going through Seattle on a
Sunday. It was as busy as Atlanta! Glad we were driving through Seattle when it
was NOT rush hour!
As we got closer to Seattle, we got into the "Express
Lanes" which are in the middle of the interstate and have very few
exits. At this point, the Express Lanes
disappear below I-5.
While still traveling under I-5, we could see the Seattle
Space Needle off to our right.
...and into a tunnel.
When we emerged on the other side, we could see CenturyLink
Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks off to our right.
We missed seeing downtown Seattle by driving via the Express
Lanes, but we also did not run into any traffic slowdowns. When we reached Exit 68, we headed east on
Hwy 12 to Randle.
As we got closer to Randle, we saw Mt. Adams (another one of Washington States five volcanos) in
the distance.
We had reservations to stay at Maple Grove RV Resort and
were supposed to have full hookups (50 AMP + water + sewer). When I went into the office to get our
campsite, I found out we could either have 50 AMP & water but no sewer or
we could have 30 AMP, water & sewer but then would have to move to another
site on Wednesday. We were very
frustrated and explained that the sales office where I had made the reservation
had told us we would have full hookups including 50 AMP. But that didn't do any good because they just
didn't have what we reserved.
When Crystal and Grant first talked about coming out here,
they had found another campground online:
Tower Rock U Fish RV Park. When I
called them, I found out they did not have 50 AMP either but they did have full
hookups that we could stay in until Friday plus they were about $12 cheaper per
night. After Chuck and I talked it over, we decided
not to stay at Maple Grove and go to Tower Rock U Fish RV Park instead.
The owner gave me very good directions over the phone plus
there were several signs to follow.
And it was a good thing because it seemed like we were going to somewhere that was out in
the middle of nowhere.
The campground really is out in
the middle of nowhere but is so nice and peaceful.
And we can see Tower Rock from the
campground.
You probably noticed it has a nice
little pond in the above picture. The
pond is stocked with trout but at $5 per fish and a "you catch it you keep
it" policy, I don't think Chuck will be doing any fishing here because that would probably cost a bunch of money! :)
