We left Pine Island around 10:30 and arrived at Myakka River
State Park around 12:15. The site we had
reserved was the same site that Ken and Bonnie had when we were here with them
in the fall. It is a really nice site
with lots of shade.
After eating a late lunch, we drove out of the park to where
we could get internet to get reservations made for Carrabelle and Stone
Mountain. When we returned, we decided
to go for a bike ride. We rode over the
Myakka River...
...and saw what I think was an old Great Blue Heron when we
rode out to the Myakka Outpost.
We rode all the way out to Clay Gully...
...where Chuck spotted a lot of baby alligators basking in
the sun on the rocks.
He counted 15 baby alligators.
Chuck even heard them making their little alligator
croak. We're sure mama alligator was close
by but we didn't see her.
We rode all the way to the north entrance of the park and
then turned around and headed back to the campground.
On the way back, we saw a deer,
a big alligator when we crossed back over the Myakka River,
and several birds wading along the shore.
I think this White Heron was trying to stand on its
head. :)
As we got closer to the campground, we saw this snake
crossing the road.
We don't think he was poisonous, but we didn't get too close
to find out.
By the time we got back to our site, we had ridden about 13
miles. It felt like it too! Chuck grilled our salmon burger (for him) and
turkey burger (for me). I told him it was the best turkey burger he has ever grilled. It was delicious!
Today was a great start to our stay at Myakka!
Ok..I am glad to be hope safely, but I am jealous. Myakka.. And now Manasota beach.. Enjoy and celebrate. Hi to Ernie and noela.
