Last Weekend at Pine Island

Friday was kind of a catch-up day.  We began the morning with pickleball but then returned to our campers to catch up on laundry and cleaning.

We got together around 4 pm with Neil & Nancy and Ken & Bonnie to enjoy some time together laughing and talking and finishing off with some cornhole games before the no-see-ums came out and started eating us alive.

On Saturday morning, Ken & Bonnie and Chuck & I got together for one more morning of pickleball.  It was another beautiful morning...

...and the pickleball players were ready to play!

Today was a monumental day in our pickleball history.  For the first time EVER, Chuck and I won our first game of pickleball against Ken and Bonnie.  And very surprisingly, we won the next two games too!  They think my new pink outfit may have something to do with it.  :)

Neil and Nancy had walked in the Pine Island 5K fundraiser for breast cancer that morning and we all met at Low Key Tiki to have lunch together.

After lunch, Ken & Bonnie and Chuck & I played together one game of shuffleboard with the women on one team and the men on the other.

The women finally won a game of shuffleboard!  I think its the pink.  :)  After shuffleboard, we drove to Matlacha for some ice cream at Great Licks Ice Cream Shop.

We walked by Leoma's Lovegrove, a local artist known for her brilliantly colored paintings.  I think Bonnie and I blended in quite well with her shop!  :)

And then we went for a walk through the small park in Matlacha.

We walked out on the fishing pier...

...and Bonnie and I decided to rest on the bench.

It was a hot but beautiful day!

When we got back to the campers, I realized I had lost my prescription glasses.  Chuck and I drove back into Matlacha and retraced our steps.  They had fallen out of my pocket when Bonnie and I were resting on the bench on the pier and someone had picked them up and laid them on the bench.  Boy, was I lucky!  I'm starting to think there's something to this lucky pink!

Ken and Bonnie came over Saturday evening and we had another very fun night of playing SkipBo, Sequence Dice, and Pinochle.

We got up early Sunday morning to tell Ken and Bonnie good-bye as they were heading up to Lazy Days to leave their RV to hopefully get the last of the warranty and repair work done before they head out west in April.  We are going to miss them so much but we're thinking about maybe joining them for part of their adventure out west.  :)

After Ken and Bonnie left, Chuck and I walked 10,000 steps around the campground...

...and down towards Saint James City and back.

When we returned to the campground, we saw this huge snapping turtle crossing the road and stopping near a camper.

We were so sad to see the empty site where Ken and Bonnie had been.  :(

After breakfast, we rode our bikes for about 10 miles or so and out through a subdivision at the southern end of the island that we had not been through previously.  There were a lot of pretty homes and beautiful scenery.

When we got back to the camper, I began trying to get caught up on the blog again. Later that afternoon, we went up to the pool for a couple of hours.  We noticed that it seems like a lot more campers are leaving now.  You could really tell it at the pool because it was not nearly as crowded as it has been.

It has been a fun-filled but very fast two weeks here at Pine Island.  We think that time in Florida goes much faster than it does anywhere else.  That's particularly true when you are blessed with such wonderful friends to spend that time with!  :)

  2. What is this about "I think we may join them for part of their trip out west". That is almost like the "if" word. It should be "when" we join them. Thanks for a wonderful 2 weeks of sharing and spending time with us. We miss you already and hope to get together in the very near future! Maybe you should buy some more pink outfits!
