I was bound and determined that we were going to ride our
bikes at least once while we were in Newfoundland. We had been traveling so much and
sightseeing, we had not had a chance to ride our bikes. Plus Newfoundland is hilly and mountainous in
areas making it hard to ride your bikes and there were not many (if any) good
bike trails like we would find in the states.
You had to ride along the few busy paved roads.
But l was determined and so Chuck gave in when I convinced
him to ride our bikes to Holyrood which was only about 6.8 km (or 4.22 miles)
from the campground. On the map, it
appeared to go through a valley so I didn’t think it would be all that bad.
Wrong!
We could have coasted all the way (and practically did) from
the campground to Holyrood. And you know
what that means…. a very long and hard climb on the way back.
While we were in Holyrood, I got a few pictures of the town…
…and the very clear water…
…and some of the sailboats docked in the harbor.
And us on our bikes.
(Don’t we look happy! Yeah, right!)
And this cross on top of the hill across the harbor.
After our 10 minute tour of downtown Holyrood, we headed
back up the long, long hill towards the campground. It was a lot worse than the picture looks.
Chuck made it all the way without stopping. I had to walk my bike part of the way. At least the weather was nice on our only bike ride in Newfoundland.
