Waterloo NY

On Monday (Labor Day), we took our time about leaving that morning because we only had about a 3 hour drive and check-in at our next campground was not until 1 pm.  We left Daisy Barn Campground around 10:20 am and traveled down some of the same country roads we traveled getting to Daisy Barn heading back to I-90.

I-90 is the only east-west interstate running across the state of New York and it is a toll road.  :(  To make things worse, the road surface was terrible.  You would think that when you are paying for a toll road the road would be in better condition than most roads.  Bump, bump, dip, bump for 74 miles.  And the traffic was very heavy.  We don't know if the traffic was heavy because of the holiday weekend or because I-90 is the only east-west interstate going across New York.  Regardless, we had a safe trip and that is all that really matters!

We arrived at Waterloo Harbor Campground a little after 1 pm.  I originally had reserved a 30 amp full hookup site where we could get satellite but when I found out the temps were going to be in the 90's, I changed it to a 50 amp full hookup with no satellite reception.  Waterloo is a small campground on Waterloo harbor and honors Passport America for the first night (meaning 50% off the nightly rate on the first night).  The campground has tight, sharp turns so Chuck had to be really careful driving through the campground.  Of course, it was a piece of cake for him!

Our site, unfortunately, was very low in the front.  We were able to maneuver the motorhome between a couple of dips at the back of the site to get it level side-to-side; but we had to drive up on 3 blocks to get it level in the front and still had to raise the jack quite a bit.  The front was so high we had to use our "portable" step.  :)

The campground has several seasonal sites that line up around the harbor which is nice for people with boats.

After getting set up, we drove into town to Wal-mart for groceries.  Like so many small New York towns, Waterloo is a quaint little old town.

After getting our groceries at Wal-mart, we headed back to the campground and sat outside for a bit while Chuck grilled our supper.  Chuck had salmon and I had steak and we grilled some peppers and onions too.  They were delicious!  :)

After dinner, I began working on the laundry that had built up over the last few days.  I had planned to use the campground's laundry to get it all done very quickly; but it didn't look much better than the laundry at Daisy Barn so I decided to just use our Splendide which works fine.  It just takes longer because you have to wash smaller loads and dry even smaller loads.
