Exploring Bolton Landing

On Saturday, we had kind of a lazy morning after a full day of hiking yesterday; but by 11:20, we were on the road to Bolton Landing to do a little exploring.  A lot of the businesses along Lake George have already closed for the season.  Yesterday, we even passed a McDonalds that had closed for the season.  That was the first time we had ever seen a "seasonal" McDonalds.

We parked along the street in Bolton Landing and began walking down the main street stopping here and there to look in some of the shops.  We looked around in this barn behind one of the stores that served as an antique store.  They had all kinds of old things like old tools and wooden skis but they also had some "old" items like record albums, Life magazines, and push-button telephones.  Who would have ever thought a push-button telephone would be in an antique store?

On the outside of the barn, there were several license plates nailed to the wall.

One looked very familiar:  a Tennessee license plate from Rutherford County (where we lived when we had a house).

As we walked out of the antique store, Crystal called and we Face-timed with her and the girls for a few minutes while we were standing outside.   We walked to a store with a big chair out front.  Chuck climbed in it first while we were still Face-timing with Avery and Hannah and they thought it was funny that their Pa was sitting in such a big chair.  We finished up our conversation while in the big chair and then Chuck took my picture.

It is so nice being able to FaceTime with the girls.  On Thursday, we FaceTimed with Tafanie and her girls as we drove from New Jersey to New York in the motorhome.  I was holding the phone, of course, but they could see their Pa driving the motorhome down the road.

We were all getting hungry so we began to look for a place for lunch.  One place we checked out had this big swing outside that we all 4 could sit on.

We ended going to The Shack for lunch which was perfect because it was a beautiful day and they had outside seating.  Bonnie and Chuck had turkey reubens, Ken had grilled scallops and I had an hot turkey open-face sandwich with cranberry sauce.  All of it was delicious!

After lunch, Bonnie and I got a kiddie scoop each of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and shared a little bit of it with our husbands.  :)  Then we walked around in another gift shop while Ken and Chuck played on their smartphones outside.

We decided to walk to The Sagamore Hotel which we had seen from the top of Buck Mountain yesterday.  As we walked down the road to The Sagamore, we passed by this beautiful B&B on Lake George.

The house belonged to George Reis who, between 1933 and 1935, owned (and drove) the fastest boat in the world.  We spoke to a couple who was staying at the B&B, and they said that the current owner bought the house several years ago and then converted it to a B&B.  There are bedrooms and a great room on the top floor and a boat house over the lake underneath.

We continued walking across the bridge to Green Island where The Sagamore is located.  We had to walk uphill to the hotel.  We were all moaning and groaning from our achy muscles from yesterday's hike but we finally made it to the hotel.

We walked through the lobby and out to the terrace where there was a gorgeous view of Lake George.

We could even see the summit of Buck Mountain where we had hiked to yesterday.

The back of the hotel is even more beautiful than the front.

We walked down to The Lakehouse, a small hotel restaurant on the edge of the lake, and rested our achy muscles and enjoyed the beauty of Lake George.

What a beautiful day!  After we left The Sagamore and Bolton Landing, we drove to the closest Wal-mart which was a few miles south in Queensbury to get some groceries and then headed back to the campground.  Chuck and I watched a frustrating football game between UT and Florida while we ate dinner and then went over to Ken and Bonnie's to play pinochle.  The guys were the winners tonight winning 2 out of 3 pinochle games.
