On to Lake Ontario

We said our good-byes to Ken and Bonnie this morning and began heading north on Hwy 220.  There was a light fog in the air as we drove through several old PA towns on hilly, curvy roads.  It seemed like every 2 minutes the GPS was saying "winding road ahead".

After driving for about an hour, we entered New York State and begin traveling west on I-86.  The haze began to lift and we could see some of the New York countryside.

Chuck spotted an air balloon off to the north of the interstate.

After driving for almost 6 hours, we arrived at Daisy Barn Campground on Lake Ontario.  As soon as we got set up, Chuck began washing and dusting off all the dirt and dust that had accumulated on the motorhome.

From our site, we can look down the road and see Lake Ontario.

Across the road from our campsite, there were these two restored Econoline trucks that the couple were putting in a car show this weekend.

We drove into town to pick up a few groceries and decided to walk down to the lake after we returned.

We could see a big freighter out on Lake Ontario and wondered if had gone through the Soo Locks that we just saw a couple of weeks ago.

There was only one sailboat out on the water.

We also could see the city of Toronto on the other side of the lake.  We realized it was Toronto by its 1,815 foot tall CN Tower (far left in the picture below).

The tower is the 3rd tallest tower in the world and is the largest free-standing structure in the western hemisphere.  To put it in perspective, it is more than twice as tall as the Tower of the Americas that we had been to the top of in San Antonio.

There is no beach at this campground.

But the water is so dirty here, I don't think I would want to put my feet in it anyways.

It was kind of disappointing.  There were so many potentially beautiful rocks along the shore like what we had found at Marquette on Lake Superior; but the water was so dirty I didn't want to walk out there to try pick any up.

Oh well.  We enjoyed sitting in the swing a little bit and looking out over Lake Ontario anyways.  :)

On Saturday morning, we went for a walk around the campground.  Lake Ontario was calm this morning and a little foggy.

There is an apple tree at the back of our campsite that is full of apples.

The campground manager had told me they were o.k. to eat.  I pulled one off and washed it but it didn't taste all that great.  It had the firmness and consistency of an apple but it had zero taste.

With this being opening weekend of college football, we watched games for a good part of the day.  Chuck grilled our supper of turkey burgers, zucchini and onions and they were delicious!  We finished up the evening watching the Tennessee Vols win their first game of the season.  Yeah!
