and then we put them back on the shelf, and finished our grocery shopping. The Valentine's Day industry will not survive if it is depending on us. :)
We went back to the river to get our 10,000 steps in. It was a windy but beautiful sunny day for a walk.
We finished our walk...
...and drove back to the camper to wait on Donald & Anna and Kevin & Karen. They were supposed to have arrived yesterday; but because of all the bad weather up north, they were delayed a day in getting here. After they arrived and got their camper set up, we met them at Maria Bonita's for a Mexican dinner. Later that evening, we went back to Donald & Anna's camper to played a round of Skip-Bo.
On Saturday morning, Chuck and I got up early and walked our 10,000 steps again along the river. It was another beautiful sunny morning along the Halifax River.
This heron was keeping his eye on a school of minnows in the water.
It has now been almost 24 hours since Donald & Anna had arrived in Daytona and none of us could wait any longer to go to one of our favorite restaurants: Aunt Catfish's. Since the boys were going to Volusia Speedway tonight, and since the best prices for the salad bar and the early bird dinner are before 4:00 pm, we arrived at Aunt Catfish's around 3:30. As I have said in previous posts, the salad bar at Aunt Catfish's is one of the best and it was again today. They also serve a delicious cinnamon roll with the meal. We always have a contest to see who received the best cinnamon roll. We narrowed the best down to two: Karen's was more symmetrical...
Their hushpuppies are very good too. Anna, however, has a very unusual way of eating her hushpuppies. She basically skins them with her teeth by eating only the outside crust. This is what a hushpuppy looks like after Anna has finished with it. That's one ugly hushpuppy. :)
After dinner, the girls came back to our place for Nerts, Sequence Dice, and Quirkle while the boys went to the races.
After church on Sunday morning, Chuck and I walked along the river again to get our 10,000 steps in. We even jogged just a little bit but I don't think we will be doing that any more because Chuck aggravated a spur in his heel. Later that afternoon, we drove over to Donald & Anna's camper at Tomoka for several games of corn hole.
The roads to Tomoka State Park are lined with beautiful trees...
...and the campsites within the park are very private with trees and shrubbery surrounding each of them.
Several canals that are good for kayaking or fishing flow through the park too.
Unfortunately, we cannot stay there because of the low-hanging limbs and size restrictions. :(
After getting the boards set up, we began an afternoon of cornhole. As usual (and as much as I hate to admit it), Chuck and Anna dominated winning every cornhole game they played in except for one.
Then, Karen and I played Donald and Kevin two games of corn hole with each team winning one game.
I asked Chuck to take our picture since Karen and I won the last game. Here's the first picture he took:
Then the next one:
"Third time's the charm!"
And you wonder why I'm not in many pictures. :)
This group of campers from Germany stopped by to watch us while we were playing for a few minutes. Chuck and Donald introduced them to the game of corn hole. One of the gentleman tried it and threw very well. We needed him playing against Chuck and Anna!
Needless to say, we all had a lot of fun playing cornhole Sunday afternoon. Especially Chuck and Donald...
After all that physical exertion, we were getting pretty hungry. :) Everyone was in the mood for Italian so we went back to a restaurant we had visited a couple of years ago, Genovese's. Chuck and I split a very delicious pizza. We even splurged and had ice cream at a Hershey's Ice Cream shop a few doors down from Genovese's.
We all went back to Donald & Anna's after dinner and played the card game 7-up before calling it an evening around midnight. Another fun-filled and food-filled day and night in Daytona! :)
