After leaving Lake Barkley, we traveled to Kampers Kompanion
Campground, a small campground located right off I-55 in Litchfield,
Illinois. I picked this campground
because it was about halfway between St. Louis and Springfield where we were
going to do a couple of day trips.
After we got set up, I talked Chuck into driving to the
Green Diamond Rail Trail that was a few miles away so we could get a little
biking in. After driving for about 4 1/2 hours, he wasn't real thrilled with the idea but being the
wonderful, patient, and loving husband that he is, he agreed to go. :)
The trailhead started in Waggoner, Illinois.
There is not much in Waggoner, Illinois...
...except the bike trail.
The description of the trail at www.traillinks.com said the
trail was paved but it was more like gravel with about a 1/4" of asphalt drizzled
on top.
Most of the trail had farmland on both sides...
...but there were some trees toward the end.
Being the 2nd week in May, we were surprised that none of
the fields appeared to be planted or even plowed yet.
We think it was because they have had so much cold weather
and rain.
It was cool and windy this day...
not the best day for taking a bike ride as you can tell by my face.
...but hey, we got our exercise in for the day.
