In the gift shop, there were some Cape May diamonds that had been polished and cut for jewelry. In the picture below, the blue box on the right contains some of the stones before they are polished. They really look like diamonds once they're polished.
We walked and did some treasure-hunting along the shore.
We found a few pieces of sea glass and I picked up a handful of pebbles that were either the Cape May diamonds or just very pretty pebbles.
One of the most interesting things along the point is a concrete ship that ran aground during a storm in 1926.
One of the most interesting things along the point is a concrete ship that ran aground during a storm in 1926.
The ship was the S. S. Atlantus and was an experiment in shipbuilding during World War I. The concrete ship was proven impractical because of its weight and was purchased to be used as a ferry dock in Cape May. Below is what the ship originally looked like.
Several attempts were made to free the ship but none were successful so it is slowly deteriorating and sinking into the ocean floor.
For lunch, we walked over to the Sunset Grill, sat on the deck...
...and enjoyed delicious cheesesteak sandwiches and onion rings.
After lunch, we drove into the town of Cape May and walked around the beautiful little coastal town.
Cape May has so many of its original houses many of which are now B&B's.
The historic Inn at Cape May was built in 1894.
We finished our tour of Cape May with walking by houses that were identically built by Stephen Button, a wealthy Cape May builder, for his seven daughters in 1892.
After leaving Cape May, we stopped by the Acme grocery store to pick up a few groceries before heading back to the campground for dinner. After dinner we got together at Ken and Bonnie's for more games. The tide has finally started to turn for the guys as they won a close game of SkipBo tonight.

Our favorites were the two on the end.
