On Friday, we packed lunches and drove just a few miles up the road to spend the day at the beach in Avalon, NJ. The beach is very popular and in the summer you have to get a beach pass just to get on the beach.
The nearby fishing pier had a few people fishing from it but not many.
Chuck and I decided to go for a walk up the beach. One of the first things we noticed was the large amount of horseshoe crabs that had died and washed up on the beach.
We found several pieces of seaglass but most of it was just glass that needed more tumbling in the ocean waves. We walked about 1.5 miles up to a rock wall at the Townsends Inlet.
We walked a bit faster on the way back because we were getting hungry for lunch! After lunch, the women suggested we play Kubb.
"Come on, boys!" They didn't seem to motivated to get out of their chairs. :)
As with all the games we will playing this week, we played men against women.
Unfortunately, the men won the first game fairly quickly. My stall tactics of getting a picture of the queen didn't even work.
We played a second game and the women won! Of course, now that each team had won a game of Kubb, we had to "play a bully" or the tie-breaker, which the men won. Rrrrr. Congratulations, guys! After playing Kubb, we decided we better head on back to the campground because we were going out to dinner at Mike's Seafood in Sea Isle City. The Friday night special is lobster for $15.95!
Mike's Seafood is located on Fish Alley in Sea Isle City.
As we waited in line to be seated, we noticed a marker of how high the water got during Hurricane Sandy.
There was just a short wait and it was a lovely evening to sit out on their deck to eat. They served the lobsters in aluminum pans. Yummy!
Lobster is usually always messy to eat because you're eating with your hands and picking out the meat but I was exceptionally messy tonight. It seemed like every time I tried to crack a claw I would sprinkle both Bonnie and me with lobster. And then, the no-see-ums started biting so that made it even more challenging. The food was delicious but we didn't hang around too long after dinner.
When we got back to the campground, we got together at Fred and Dolores' camper and played SkipBo and most of a game of 5 Crowns before calling it an evening.
On Saturday, Ken and Bonnie left early that morning to do a craft show in Sea Isle City where Bonnie sold her beautiful pendants and earrings made from shell pieces. They have done this show for the last 3 years and did very well again. Fred and Dolores went to the beach and craft show at Sea Isle City and Chuck and I had kind of a lazy morning before going to Wal-mart and then up to the craft show.
On Saturday evening, we grilled steaks and salmon and enjoyed another great meal together. Everyone came over to our place tonight where we finished up 5 Crowns, played another game of SkipBo and Sequence Dice. Another fun day! :)
