On to Ontonagon

On Wednesday morning, we left Beantown Campground in Bailey's Harbor, Wisconsin, around 8:20.  With the exception of some construction in places, we had no traffic problems whatsoever going through Green Bay and then heading north and northwest to Ontonagon, Michigan, for a total of 283 miles.  It was very windy today but Chuck kept us straight on the road!

We were actually surprised at the excellent condition of back roads in both Wisconsin and Michigan.  They were better than the main roads.

Once we crossed the Brule River, we entered the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

We were surprised at how the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) is not flat like Illinois and much of Wisconsin.

After crossing into the Eastern Time Zone, we entered the small town of Ontonagon around 3:10...

...and were at the Ontonagon Township Park about 5 minutes later.  They do not take reservations; but when I called earlier this morning, the camp host said he would save a nice site for us by the lake.  And what a nice site it is!  Look at the view out our bedroom window:

The site was fairly level and only has water and electric but the views are AWESOME!!!

View of the motorhome from the beach.

View to the southwest side of the beach.

View to the northeast side of the beach.
You think you are at the beach on the ocean because Lake Superior can have such big waves (particularly when it is windy like it was today) and the sandy beaches.  But there are no high tides and low tides, no dolphins, no jellyfish, and no SHARKS!  Just cold, clear water.

We sat outside and watch the sun set precisely on time at 9:33 pm EDT.

As the skies began to darken after sunset,

we could see the silhouette of Porcupine Mountains to our southwest.

I think we are going to like Ontonagon Township Park!  :)

  1. Wow.. Looks great. That last picture is a classic. You need to get a blow up and hang it in your home. How fast did you have to run to get that picture?
