Bike Ride, Burger Burger & a Honey Moon

Since it was a bright sunny day, we decided to ride our bikes around Hatteras.  First, we rode down to the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum.  The front of the museum looks like the skeleton of an old ship.

Then we rode up and down several of the streets where beach houses were located.  We stopped at a couple of seafood stores to get prices on shrimp and then we rode up and down the streets on the sound side of Hatteras.  We rode by this old cemetery in which there were several markers with dates from the 18th century.

On the sound side of Hatteras there were several marinas and private docks like in this canal.

There are some pretty older homes in Hatteras.  This house on the sound side of Hatteras was for sale for only $345,000!  I can't imagine how expensive some of those big beach houses on the ocean side must be!

There are canals just about everywhere you go in Hatteras.

After we finished our bike ride, we decided to drive up to Avon to a restaurant called Burger Burger that had very good reviews on Trip Advisor.  Although they had several items on the menu, we both decided to go with hamburgers. Chuck figured it was going to be a good restaurant when they brought out the extra large size ketchup bottle!

Burger Burger hamburgers were some of the best burgers we have ever had.  We're even thinking about going back tomorrow!  I ordered the sweet potato fries and they were delicious too.

After lunch, we rode around and shopped a little bit and found a Cape Hatteras t-shirt for Chuck.  By the way, I forgot to mention about my bargain t-shirt I bought the day of the kite festival in Kitty Hawk.  They were having a sidewalk sale and I found an Outer Banks t-shirt for $1.  You can't beat that!  :)

The wind picked up and we had a little rain shower later that afternoon.  After the shower, a rainbow appeared that seemed to pour its colors into those cute little painted cottages in front of the campground.

A rare "honey moon" (orange-colored moon) was expected to rise this evening, Friday the 13th.  The last time a full moon occurred in June on a Friday the 13th was June 13th, 1919.  When will it next occur on a Friday the 13th in June?  June 13, 2098!  Needless to say, we were hoping to see this rare honey moon tonight on Friday, June 13th!

We drove over to the beach about 8:30 because the moon rise was scheduled to occur at 8:47 pm. We were not sure whether we would see it because of the cloud cover.  We walked around a little bit,

talked to a father and son who were beach fishing, and spotlighted some sand crabs like this one.

It was well past 8:47 pm and we started to leave because it didn't look like the cloud cover was going to let us see the moon.  We turned around to look back one more time and there it was...

...a honey moon.  In this picture, it looks like there are a couple of bats flying across it!  :)

The clouds cleared for a few minutes and we saw the full honey moon.

So cool!!!!  We watched the honey moon a few minutes longer until it disappeared behind the clouds.

Another "once-in-a-lifetime" day and night we were so blessed to experience!  :)
