We completed all the day trips we wanted to do during the first part of our week at Hatteras. Now we can go at a slower pace the rest of the week and just enjoy the beach.
We woke up to rain but by 11 am the rain had stopped and we decided to go to the beach. Chuck fished...
...while I walked around the beach looking for more of the striped shell pieces like we had found on Ocracoke.
According to the fishing guide I found online, the fishing was supposed to be good today but the only person we saw catch a fish while we were there was Chuck.
After a couple of hours at the beach, we went back to the camper for lunch. The campground has these cute little cottages for rent also.
After lunch, Chuck fished the canal behind the motorhome.
He had a lot more hits here. It looks like he's got one.
Yep, he got one but the hook and the bait was almost as big as the fish! :)
Later that afternoon, we drove to the store to get some milk. Next to the store was the U.S. Weather Bureau Station that was constructed in 1901. Weather observations near Cape Hatteras were so important for forecasters all along the East Coast that this was only one of 11 such weather station buildings in the entire country at the turn of the century. The building now serves as a welcome center.
Back at the campground, we spent about an hour at the pool enjoying the cool water. :)
We grilled hamburgers for dinner and noticed this little gecko crawling on the fence behind the motorhome.
After dinner, our new friends Charlie and Karen came over and we enjoyed talking, laughing and swapping RVing stories until the no-see-ums came out. A nice, relaxing day at Hatteras.
