Headed to Virginia

We left on Thursday and drove as far as Bristol where we had stayed at the Lakeview RV Park which we had stayed at previously when traveling to Virginia.  Lakeview is a Passport America park where we get 50% off camping fees.

On Friday, we drove to Rustburg, VA where we stayed at the Lynchburg Thousand Trails for free.  Well, not really for free.  We had decided to purchase the Zone Pass offered by Thousand Trails where we would get 30 days of “free camping” for the annual fee of $499 and then $3 per night camping after that.  Because they were offering a “buy one zone get one zone free” and because they have a lot of campgrounds in the northeast, we decided to buy the pass and get the northeast and southeast zones.

The Lynchburg Thousand Trails campground is not in Lynchburg, Virginia, but further out in the country past Rustburg, Virginia.  We trusted our new Rand McNally RV GPS to get us there.  This GPS is designed for RVers in that you can program in the dimensions and weight of your RV and the GPS takes that into consideration when routing to your destination.
We had one underpass to go through that was the lowest we had gone under yet:  13'6" and we are about 12' 8".  When we approach these low underpasses that look so close, we think "will we make it?"  We approached it slowly, held our breath and drove through without a problem.
After a few more turns and country roads, we finally arrived at the park.

Lynchburg is a nice park in that it was very “woodsy” which we like and it had a nice lake.  However, it was kind of run down and many of the sites are not level.  We disconnected the tote after checking in, parked the RV in a side parking lot, and drove through the park to find the site that appeared to be the most level and with enough tree clearance to get satellite reception.  We decided on Site B-31.

After getting set up, we went into town to get some groceries.  While looking for bacon, we found something we had never seen before:  liver pudding.  Are you kidding me, liver pudding?  Yuck!

It was right between the country scrapple and the souse.

We like to try new foods but decided to pass on the liver pudding, country scrapple and souse.  We stuck with the more familiar Oscar Mayer bacon.
Even though it was a weekend, the park was not crowded at all.

Over the weekend, we rode our bikes through the park a couple of times, went for a few walks, and had a couple of campfires.
