A day at the zoo.

While we mainly rested in Reston, I did want to take one day and go to the National Zoo in Washington, DC.  On Friday of our last week, we packed up everything in the car (car seat, stroller, picnic lunch, camera, sunscreen, baby wipes, toys) and everyone (Chuck, Tafanie, Isabella and me) in the car and drove to the zoo.

After getting there, Chuck and Tafanie looked at the map...

...while Isabella patiently waited for them to decide where to go first.

Pa tried to get Isabella look at the farm animals,

but what she really wanted to see was the big fish.

After "swimming" through the seas with the fish, we traveled to the sub-tropic jungles and would have lost Pa if had not been for his bright orange shirt.

While in the jungle, we saw what we thought were some of the cutest little frogs...

...until we learned that some of them were poisonous:

Next, we saw a lion...

a tiger...

but no bears.  The lions have big teeth...

...and like to sleep.

"Oooohh, Pa, she looks scary!" says Isabella.  Pa says, "Don't worry, I got you!"

By this time, we were getting hungry; so we stopped at a park bench and had lunch.

Isabella ate all of her lunch!

A prarie dog across the pathway ate his lunch too.

After lunch, Chuck and I went to the reptile house and saw a very big turtle...

some creepy animals like a very big lizard...

...a very big python (that is a dead rabbit he is squeezed around)...

...a big rattlesnake...

...a crocodile with a long snout and big teeth...

...another big lizard with big jaws...

...and a Goliath Bird-Eating tarantula....let's get out of here!

Next, we went to the ape house where we saw an orangutan,

a chimpanzee,

and some gorillas.

We finished up our trip to the zoo with a visit to the elephants...

and to the animal the National Zoo is probably most famous for:  the pandas.

While Isabella may be too young to remember this trip to the zoo with her mom, and her Pa and MiMa, we will always remember it and treasure it.  Maybe this blog will help her remember it too!
