Leaf Tour Heads South

We pulled out of Hershey Thousand Trails at 8 am right on schedule and following Ken and Bonnie all the way today.  As we crossed the Susquehanna River, we could see Harrisburg off to the north.  The arches of the Market Street Bridge reflected the sunlight nicely on the Susquehanna.

After leaving Harrisburg, we got on I-81 which is the interstate we will be traveling on all the way to Tennessee.  Before we knew it, we were entering Maryland.

And 10 miles after that, we were crossing the Potomac River...

...and entering West Virginia.

And about 25 miles after West Virginia, we entered Virginia.

We noticed that some of the trees are beginning to change as we head further south.

We passed this truck that was loaded with turkeys.  They didn't look too happy but I wouldn't be either if I was a turkey knowing what will soon be here:  Thanksgiving dinner.

After passing the I-66 turn-off to D.C., we began to see the Shenandoah Mountains to the east.

We ran into a little slowdown on I-81 right before we got off at exit 235 but it wasn't too bad.  As we drove on Hwy 256 east over to Hwy 340 where the campground was located, we drove through farmlands with the Shenandoahs right ahead of us.

We arrived at the campground around 1:00 pm.  We got all set up and sat outside at Ken and Bonnie's for lunch.  Our shaded sites are side by side.

When we got together later that evening, Ken and Bonnie told us stories of when they lived in Harrisonburg, Virginia, (which we drove through today) right after they got married.  Next, we chatted awhile discussing what we might do while we are here.  But then, we got down to the serious stuff:  cards.  We played a close game of Pinochle which the guys won followed by a close game of SkipBo which the girls won.  We all go to bed with winners tonight!
