Back to Tennessee - Bluff City

We left Waynesboro around 8 am and were soon on I-81 heading south.  We remembered how pretty this drive is from the years we drove it from Nashville when Tafanie and my parents lived in the D.C. area.

As we got closer to Tennessee, we began seeing an item that people traveling through Tennessee see frequently:  construction barrels.  :)

We were welcomed back to our home state of Tennessee around 12:30.

When we originally were planning our trip back south, we had considered stopping in the Smokies but we knew how crowded it would be so we had decided to stay a few nights at Lakeview RV Park in Bluff City, TN, which is just a few miles from Bristol.  The campground is Passport America so our rates were 50% off which always nice.

We noticed as we drove into the campground that Boone Lake which the campground backs up to was very, very low.

Ken took this picture when they were walking around the park.
When we were last here 3 years ago, we walked out on these docks that were surrounded by water and boats at the time.  A leak was discovered at the Boone Lake dam a year ago and it is going to take 5 to 7 years for the dam to be fixed.  The campground told us that there are marinas upstream where the boats are dry-docked and they can't even get the boats out because TVA won't allow the equipment in there to get the boats out.  Needless to say, many businesses have been severely affected by this.  The campground told us they have 50 sites reserved for TVA workers to begin work on the project in the next month.

The weather was so nice that we decided to sit outside and enjoy the warm sunshine before dinner.  We got together later at Ken and Bonnie's to play cards and the guys won both games handily this time.  Bonnie and I have to let the men win every once in a while -- particularly after they have driven for half the day.  :)
