Monroe MI & Another Great Lake

We left Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds around 8:40 and decided to travel the toll roads of I-80/90 to avoid going through stopping and starting of the back country roads and small towns.  As we headed north on I-75 in Ohio, we were welcomed to the big city of Toledo.

We checked in very quickly to Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe, Michigan, and quickly got set up on a very nice level pull-through site.

After lunch, we drove to nearby Sterling State Park so we could see and get our feet wet in our 4th Great Lake:  Lake Erie.  The park was not very busy we guess because it was the middle of the week.
We walked out to the beach where there were few people in the water.

Lake Erie is not nearly as clear, blue and beautiful as Lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron.

Chuck went to the edge of the water first and touched it with his hand.

And then I ventured out and got my feet wet.

Below is a comparison of my feet in the water of the Great Lakes we have visited so far:

Lake Superior, Ontonagon, Michigan
Lake Huron, Cheboygan, Michigan

Lake Michigan, Jacksonport, Wisconsin
Chuck taking the plunge in Lake Michigan,
 Elk Rapids, Michigan
My feet in the surf of Lake Erie, Monroe, Michigan
The water must be considered safe because there were people swimming in it.  But you have a nuclear power plant towards the north end of the beach...

...and a coal power plant towards the south end of the beach.

Hmmm.  Maybe there is another reason there are not very many people at the beach.

After we got back to the motorhome, Chuck washed the motorhome in between rain showers.  The last time the motorhome was washed was when we were in Zion.  There where several thousand miles of dust and dirt on it since then.

Tomorrow, we're going to do a little exploring of the Detroit area.
