After watching an 8 minute video on ATV safety and getting briefed on where we could go and where we couldn't go, we put on our rental helmets and got strapped in to our ATV.
We drove out a short road to the dunes...
...and soon reached the first (and biggest) dune.
The dunes seemed to be everywhere. We hoped we didn't get lost!
We rode to the lower end of the first dune to take our first practice runs up the dunes.
We decided to head on to the beach first so we could spend most of our time at the dunes on our way back.
The speed limit on the beach access road was 15 mph but you couldn't go much faster than that because of all the whoop-dee-doos!
Doesn't Chuck look like a safe driver!
Are we having fun or what!
We rode on and on for what seemed like forever...
...and then we finally reached the beach.
The beach was very pretty and the ride was a lot smoother here.
Now it was time for me to drive awhile...
...and boy did I have fun. I forgot how much fun it is to drive an ATV. I drove back down the beach, back up the beach access road, and then up and down the dunes for about 45 minutes. Chuck didn't take any pictures because he was holding on for dear life. :)
Then, we switched drivers again so Chuck could have some fun driving the dunes. After we got to know where we were and what the dunes looked like at the bottom and the top it got even more fun.
Those 2 hours went by fast but it was fun, fun, fun. We were starving after all that riding. The owner of the rental place recommended Captain's Choice in Coos Bay. We went there and split their a bowl of clam chowder and their seafood platter plate both of which were very good.
After picking up a few things at Wal-Mart, we headed back home where we both took a nice long nap. I think all that fun dune-riding wore us out.
