We left Holiday RV Park in Phoenix, Oregon, about 10:30 am
and began climbing up and over Siskiyou Summit, the highest elevation climb and
descent between Canada and Mexico. I was
a little nervous with everything I had read about the summit but Chuck kept the
motorhome geared down and we didn't have any problems whatsoever ascending or
descending Siskiyou Summit.
The surrounding landscape of northern California was
beautiful...
and the sun started to peep out on Mt. Shasta (far back left
of picture).
We could see Everitt Hill to the west of Mt. Shasta.
Then the clouds began to break even more giving us some
gorgeous views of the 14,162 ft Mt. Shasta.
We found out from our new friends, John and Susie Borges, that
the snow on the top of Mt Shasta was from a recent snowfall. When they had traveled north a couple of
weeks ago, there was very little snow on Mt. Shasta.
We crossed Shasta Lake which looked way low from the
appearance of the banks.
We traveled to Red Bluff, California, and decided to stay at
Durango RV Resort. What a very nice
RV resort!
Since the weather was nice and they permitted washing of RVs
here, Chuck decided to give the motorhome a good wash and wax. It needed it after all the rain and driving on wet roads for
the past few weeks.
