San-Suz-Ed

We left Lakeside, MT, by 7 am because we had to be at Eisinger Honda in Kalispell, MT, for our 8:00 am appointment; and since it was such a short distance, we drove separately.  I checked in our CRV with Eisinger Honda for the 60,000 mile service work while Chuck parked the motorhome in an empty church parking lot next door to Honda.

It was real convenient to be able to wait "at home" while the CRV service work was being completed next door.   The time gave me a chance to work on the blog some more while I enjoyed my morning coffee.

Chuck walked over to Home Depot and bought two 3/4" square sticks.  One of the things we learned at the fire safety seminar at the FMCA Rally is that you need a stick to prop open the emergency windows on a motorhome should you ever need to escape through those windows in the event of a fire.  The windows are kind of heavy and would be difficult to keep open if you had to quickly climb out of the window in the event of a fire.  Chuck cut the "emergency window sticks"  to the right length needed to prop open our emergency windows and we keep them in the cabinets right above our two emergency windows.

The CRV was ready by 11:30 as promised and since it was another short drive to West Glacier, Montana, we drove separately there as well.  We pulled into San-Suz-Ed RV Park in West Glacier about 45 minutes later.  San-Suz-Ed RV Park is an older park but we really like it.  We were given site #1

which was close to the office and their beautiful flower garden (and you know how much I like flowers).

We feel like we are staying at "grandma's house".  She (the owner) has a bed and breakfast here and they make cinnamon rolls and homemade pies.   In her garden, she has these unusual flowers called "moonflowers" that open up and bloom at dusk and into the night.  After they bloom, they gradually start to wither but more buds open up and bloom the next night and they do this all summer long.

This is what the moon flowers look like during the day.

And this is what they look like at dusk and into the night.

The moonflowers were our evening entertainment.  Right around dusk, the flowers would open up and I was able to catch several of them on video opening up.  Hope you enjoy the below movie.  It looks like "time-lapsed" photography; but the opening of the flowers is at actual speed.

We ended up deciding to stay at San-Suz-Ed for over a week.  At $42 per night, it is a little more expensive than our goal of $30 per night; but the Wi-Fi was great and we had Verizon 4G service both of which were great for helping me to upload pictures and movies on the blog.  Plus we are only 2 miles from the entrance to the Glacier National Park. which was convenient for all our day trips.

On Monday evening, we drove into the park hoping to get some information from the Visitor Center but they had already closed.  So we drove around Apgar Village, Apgar Campground and Fish Creek Campground located inside the west entrance to the park.  Neither campground has hookups but there were a few sites in Apgar that a motorhome like ours could get into.

We also went to the boat ramp at Apgar and to Fishing Creek Campground and got a sample of what we would be seeing over the next few days at Glacier National Park.

We can't wait to see the rest of Glacier National Park!
