Then off we went!
One of the many Potomac tributaries was on the south side of
the trail…
…and a canal that had been built in the early 1800’s was on
the north side of the trail.
There was a tavern built in 1831 on the canal, just 3 years
after construction had begun on the canal in 1828.
The canal had many locks boats would have to travel through.
They even had some scenic tour boats when the canal was operational.
We then headed down the trail to Great Falls. The trail crossed several tributaries of the
Potomac.
Chuck was showing Isabella the river stream below.
We crossed over another tributary that had some waterfalls.
Then we reached the end of the trail where we could see
Great Falls.
Tafanie said the water was not flowing nearly as hard now…
…as when they had been here back in June.
I don’t think I would want to be crossing it even now
though.
You could see the Virginia side of the falls from where we
were standing. Hello Virginia!
It was getting to be a very hot day, but Isabella hung in
there with us:
It was a great way to spend the day with some of our
“babies”:
