We got away from the campground around 10 am CST and by 10:30, we were crossing into Texas.
Off to the west, we could see a statute on top of a mountain.
The statute, Mount Cristo Rey, is one of the largest statues of Christ in the world, and can be accessed by a 4.4 mile hiking trail. You can see some hikers at the base of the statue in the below picture.
As we drove through El Paso, we noticed the beautifully decorated bridges and overpasses.
As we drove across west Texas, the landscape was flat in some places (like Kansas),
but in other places there was the occasional mesa...
as well some mountains.
The hill (or mesa?) below, looked more like a pyramid...a Texas pyramid. :)
We drove until about 6 pm and stayed at the North Llano River RV Park in Junction, Texas, which was a very nice park with full hookups, pull-through sites, and even covered patios and nice patio chairs. Too bad we were just there overnight!
With only about a 2-3 hour drive on to San Antonio, we took our time leaving the campground on Monday morning. We were starting to see more trees again and were now in what is called the Hill Country of Texas.
We decided to stay at Traveler's World Carefree RV Resort while in San Antonio because it had very good reviews on RV Park Reviews and it was right next to the Riverwalk where we could go for bike rides. We were assigned Site #94 which was long, level and had plenty of room between the sites.
The park has a lot of snowbirds both from Canada and the US land here in the winter as well as some snowbirds that stay here for a week or so before traveling further south. A lot of their snowbirds had not arrived yet.
The park had a lot of activities scheduled and invited us to their Monday night potluck dinner. We decided to go and had so much fun and met so many nice people. In fact, we met so many nice people and had so much fun over the next several days that our 3 night stay turned into a 7 night stay and then a 10 night stay!
