It seems like this year that the more we try to escape the heat, the more we are drawn back into it! Two of our shades quit working while we are Fall Creek Falls -- fortunately in the up position. We tried all the fuses and everything that Classic Coachworks (who installed the shades) recommended but could not get them to work. So guess where we are going next: Ormond Beach, FLORIDA! In the hottest and probably most humid time of the year!
We left Fall Creek Falls around 7:30 on Friday morning and decided to stop at Wanee Golf & RV Resort on the way down since Stone Mountain was completely booked up. Normally, we drive with just the windows open, but it was so hot we had to use the dash a/c which cooled us down quite nicely with our little curtains drawn behind the cab.
We arrived at Wanee around 3 pm. The campground only had about 10 campers like usual but the golf club parking lot was nearly full. When I checked in, I found out that Wanee had been sold to new owners. The new owner Tommy encouraged us to check out the golf course to see if we don't think it's in better shape now.
We got set up on site #1 and stayed inside to stay cool as much as we could. Around 8 pm, we decided to play 3 holes since the sun doesn't set until 8:30. The temps were better but the gnats were terrible. So we played a quick 3 holes of what I call "Fast Gnatty Golf".
On Saturday morning, we got up early and were on the course by 8 am. As we played, we did notice that the greens were in much better shape and a whole lot faster. The gnats were not nearly as bad but the heat and humidity got progressively worse through the morning. We stopped back by the motorhome after the first 9 holes and thought about waiting and playing the remaining 9 holes later that afternoon. However, since the temps would be cooler over the next couple of hours than they would be later in the day, we decided to go ahead and finish our game.
We carried lots of water with us and kept ourselves well hydrated but the sun just kept getting hotter and hotter.
By the 7th hole, Chuck started wearing one of his golf towels under his hat to try keep a little cooler.
We played decently particularly given how hot it was but by the time we were finished, we were both pretty tuckered-out. We were looking forward to a cool afternoon in the a/c of the motorhome. As we were walking back to the motorhome, we happened to notice that the cover on the front rooftop a/c was missing. Apparently, it came loose and blew off somewhere on the way down on Friday. There are always low limbs in Fall Creek Falls and one of them may have loosened it but we didn't hear anything and didn't notice it missing until today. Thankfully, the a/c still works, it just doesn't have a cover.
So, that's one more thing to get fixed this year! Fortunately, we are going to be in Florida anyways and hopefully Alliance Coach can get us worked in this next week. I think that maybe we should rename our blog for this year to: "Let's Just Go Somewhere And Get Something Fixed." :) Just kidding! We really have been blessed to not have had more problems than we have had over the past 4 1/2 years of full-timing in our RV. And most of the times we have had a problem, we have been able to get it resolved fairly quickly. Maybe this will be the last fix-it thing for a while and we can find some cooler weather soon! :)
And besides that, we ate at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch!
Sweet!
