Waiting on RV Repairs

On Sunday, Sept. 7th, we left Carrabelle and drove the motorhome to Alliance Coach in Wildwood to get the slide-out repaired.  We arrived at the facility's campground Sunday afternoon, and were ready for our appointment first thing Monday morning.

When we first spoke to our service adviser, he said they do slide-out repairs all the time.  He thought based on how we had described the problem that they could fix it in one day by installing stainless steel where the laminate on the slide-out floor was breaking apart and that they would be done by the end of the day Monday.  This was before they had actually seen our problem.

Needless to say, we were all happy and encouraged that they would be able to get done quickly and the repairs would not be as expensive because they would not have to remove the slide-out.  Since I thought the repair would be done so quickly, I found a hair salon and got my hair cut and roots touched up.

While I was in the hair salon, Chuck called to tell me that after looking more closely at our slide-out, they had determined that our floor was too damaged and the laminate cracked too much to do the quick and easy stainless steel repair.  They will have to pull out the slide-out and replace the floor.  Ugh!

After my hair appointment, Chuck picked me up and we went back to the motorhome to empty all the cabinets on the slide-out that is being repaired and pack some clothes for a few nights because we couldn't stay in it while the work was being done. They showed us where they thought water may have come in causing the floor to get soft and what it would take to do the repairs.  They checked our other slide-outs and while the floors on the other slide-outs were in pretty good shape, they recommended stripping off all the old caulking and re-sealing them which we decided to have done at the same time. They told us they thought they would have the motorhome ready by at the latest Friday, Sept. 12th.

We checked in to the nearby Sleep Inn which was the hotel Alliance recommended and actually got a better rate because of being an Alliance Coach customer than what I could get through any AAA or online discounts.  The room was nice and the hotel had breakfast every day so we thought this wouldn't be too bad for a few days.

On Tuesday morning, we tried out the hotel work-out room which consisted of an elliptical machine, a cycle machine and a treadmill.  I tried the elliptical for about 3 minutes and decided that was enough for me.  I got on the cycle machine while Chuck used the treadmill for 30 minutes and then we swapped machines for another 30 minutes.  After working out and getting showers, we ate a pretty good breakfast.  Chuck had toast, plastic eggs and sausage and I had a great big waffle.  :)

We went to a movie theater that afternoon in The Villages to see When The Game Stands Tall.  We enjoyed the movie but when it was over, it was pouring down rain.

We waited for the rain to stop but finally gave up and just walked in the rain back to the car.

On Wednesday morning, we got a call from our service adviser saying they had a problem.  Their machine that lifts the slide-out out of the coach broke that morning while they were putting a slide-out back in another coach and they thought it would be at least Thursday evening before they would get it back which would mean they would not have our motorhome ready until at least Monday.

Rather than stay in the hotel for another 5 days, we decided to drive back to Nashville to visit my mom because we hadn't seen her since back in July.  We made the 640 mile trip in about 10 hours and that was with driving through Atlanta during rush hour!!  And we didn't exceed the speed limit either!

We called my mom when we were about 2 hours out of Nashville and surprised her asking if she wanted company (us) for a few days.  We had a very nice time in Nashville and actually got to spend more time with my mom this time since we were staying with her rather than staying in the motorhome.  We also went to dinner our last night with Donald and Anna at P F Changs to celebrate Donald's birthday.  We went back to their house after dinner and played a couple of rounds of SkipBo.  Donald and I won both games!!!!  It's about time!!!
