A month at Jellystone

Well, that was fast!  Cullum & Maxey called this morning and the RV is ready!  New batteries and de-winterized.  And guess what?  It is supposed to get down to 19 degrees tonight.  So we had to move in today to keep the heat on to it.
Because I had to continue working through the end of January, we had to find a place to stay in Nashville for a month.  We had investigated KOA, Two Rivers and Jellystone campgrounds on Music Valley Drive close to Opryland Hotel in Nashville and decided to stay at Jellystone.  The park was still having their nightly Christmas lights show when we moved in.

During January, we visited with friends and family and drove to Lafayette to celebrate and early” 90th birthday with Chuck’s Grandma Velma.

My mom got to go with us for the early 90th birthday party too.

My mom fixed several homecooked meals for us during the month which we both really appreciated along with letting us use her showers and laundry so we didn’t have to worry about dumping the wastewater as much in the cold weather.
We actually got lucky with the mild winter.  I was even able to work some days from the RV and didn’t have to make the long commute to work.  There was only one day I had to drive home in the snow in the truck and that was enough!  I'm ready to head south!

We drove back out to the church we had been attending to tell them our good-byes.  When we told them we had sold our house, one of the elders asked us, “So what are you doing now, camping out somewhere?”  To which we replied, “Well, actually we are” and then told him about our full-timing plans.  He and everyone else all wished us well and were very happy for us.

We spent much of our time moving stuff in and out and back in and out of the motorhome trying to decide what we needed to take with us, what we need to give away and what we need to store at mom’s.  All the boxes everywhere in the RV about drove us crazy; but by the time we were ready to leave, everything had been gone through and determined what to keep on board.

My office threw me a surprise “retirement” party on the last day I was there and wished me well on our new journey!

By the end of January, we had sold our remaining vehicles except the RV and the Honda.  We sold our truck my last day at work.  We spent my first day of retirement getting all the address changes completed so come February 2nd, we were ready to go.
