On to Paicines? Where in the world is that?

Since we only had to drive about 84 miles today, we didn't leave the campground at Kit Fox RV Park until around 9 am.  We drove south on I-5 and then got off at the Santa Nella exit 407 and then took Hwy 152 and then 156 and then finally Fairview Road through Paicines, California.

Paicines is a very small town.  If you blink, you will miss it.  And yet, it is considered the gateway to Pinnacle National Park which is where we are headed tomorrow.

When we got off the interstate and on to Highway 152, we began driving up through those golden hills of California,

pass the San Luis Reservoir,

and up and through the Pacheco Pass.

As we headed down the other side of the pass, the hillsides turned green with trees.

The pass had 3 miles of 5 and then 6 percent descent but after crossing the Tehachapi Pass and going up to Yosemite on Hwy 120, Ken and Chuck handled it just fine!  :)

Everywhere we have traveled this year in California (with the exception of the cities and the highest elevations), there have been miles and miles and miles of orchards, farmland, and groves.  Today, was no exception.  We passed by acres and acres of lettuce fields and onion fields and of course, more of those California vineyards.

After we turned on to Cienega Road, a little two-lane road that goes through and around all the farms, our freezer drawer opened on the refrigerator.  This happened to us for the first time two days ago when we are coming down that curvy Hwy 120 from Groveland and then it happened again today.  Only problem was, I could not get the drawer closed back today.  So, for the last couple of miles of our drive into the San Benito RV Park, I had to try to hold the freezer drawer closed as best as I could.

While I was getting us checked in, Chuck was able to get the drawer closed but we think a bearing may have come off the drawer track and caused it not to stay as tightly closed.  There was also some ice built up behind the drawer but Chuck was able to get that removed.

Bonnie and I drove around to look for campsites and we did find two that are next to each other.

Like most Thousand Trails campgrounds, San Benito RV Resort is miles away from anything.  But we do have full hookups so that is good.

When we got together for cards tonight, the girls won both Up the River and Pinochle.  Woohoo!
We're looking forward to exploring Pinnacle National Park tomorrow!
