Back to Ormond Beach

On Thursday morning, we said our good-byes to Ken and Bonnie for a couple of weeks and headed north to Ormond Beach, Florida, where we were going to meet up with Donald & Anna and Sheila & Kip.  We had reservations at Harris RV Village which is a very small park about 10 minutes from where they were going to be staying at Tomoka State Park.

Our drive was uneventful and we arrived at Harris RV Village around 1:30.  They fill every possible space in the park during Speed Week and Bike Week.  It was kind of tight backing into but with careful maneuvering and guidance from the park owner, Chuck got our home backed into the spot without any problem.

Chuck and I went to a nearby Wal-mart to pick up a few groceries.  You can tell Speed Week is around the corner when you see miniature race cars on top of huge displays of Cokes, Dr. Peppers and Sprites.

Donald & Anna didn't get away as early on Thursday as they intended to due to a problem with their truck but by early afternoon they were headed south with Sheila & Kip pulling their new camper not too far behind.  We knew it was going to be Friday before they got to Tomoka so Chuck and I had kind of a quiet evening on Thursday reading and getting caught up on some TV shows we had recorded.

On Friday, Donald & Anna and Sheila & Kip arrived at Tomoka around 4:30.  After they had gotten set up on their sites, we all went to dinner at Genovese's Italian Cafe which is in nearby Ormond Beach.  Chuck, Donald and I split their Cafe Combo pizza which was delicious.  Because the restaurant was so crowded, the six of us shared a table with another couple who just so happen to be from our old hometown of Smyrna, Tennessee.  Not only did we enjoy a delicious dinner, but we also enjoyed visiting with some fellow Tennesseans.  After dinner, we went back to Donald & Anna's camper and visited for a little while before calling it a night.

On Saturday afternoon, we went over to Tomoka and played some cornhole games at Donald & Anna's.  Then, we made our first trip to everyone's favorite restaurant:  Aunt Catfish's.

We had to wait a little while but were not disappointed with the food.  There salad bar was just as fresh and delicious as ever and their sweet rolls were just as sweet.

After dinner, Chuck and I headed on back to our camper because I was pretty tired.  I'm still getting over this cold or whatever it is I have had and I'm afraid Chuck is coming down with it now too.

On Sunday morning, we all went to church together in Ormond Beach and then went to Maria Bonita's restaurant for lunch.  I don't know if it is our colds or what but the food did not taste very good to Chuck or me and we didn't even finish the meal we split.  We went back to the camper for a little while and then headed over Donald & Anna's to play some cards.

Also, on Sunday which was Valentine's Day, we spoke with both Tafanie and Crystal and their families.  Our five granddaughters seemed to really like the five puppies we sent to each of them for Valentine's Day.  :)

Chuck and Donald went to Volusia Speedway on Sunday evening to watch the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars race.  They said the races were good and the cars very fast but as you can tell from the way everyone is bundled up in pictures, it was also fairly cold.

They are loud and fast.  Watch!

I stayed back and played cards with Anna, Sheila and Kip for a little while and then headed home to get caught up on some laundry.

On Monday morning, Anna and Sheila cooked a delicious breakfast for all of us.  Sheila's biscuits were so good especially with Anna's strawberry jam on top!  :)

After breakfast, we played several games of cornhole.

Donald & Anna and Sheila & Kip wanted to go to K-mart that was closing down in Daytona so Chuck and I headed back to the camper for a little while.  Then, later that afternoon, we met them at Sonny's Barbecue for some of their delicious barbecue.  We played 7-Up back at Donald & Anna's and then later that evening, after we had gone back to the camper, a pretty nasty storm came through with a lot of heavy rain.  Our weather radio kept going off and there was even a tornado warning for the Melbourne area which is about 70 miles south of us.

On Tuesday, we began to get a few things ready for leaving on Wednesday and then met Donald & Anna and Sheila & Kip for our last dinner with them back at Aunt Catfish's.  After dinner, we went back to Donald & Anna's and played a round of SkipBo with Chuck and Anna winning a very close game between the three teams.

It's been a fast six nights in Ormond Beach but we sure enjoyed getting to spend time with Donald & Anna and Sheila & Kip.  Lots of good food and fun!
